About me

Yes, I sometimes wear sock in sandals. It is extremely comfortable.

My name is Victor Martz. I was a french biologist fascinated by ecosystems. I changed path 8 years ago and decided to dive deep into timber framing. I am a self employed timber framer with a preference for hand tools (exceptions made for the circular saw and the chain mortiser...).

I've travelled around northern Europe by bike for a couple of years to find a place to learn and ended up back in France, with Léonard Rousseau (website). Timber framing was still recently a forgotten trade. Most of the techniques framers use are pretty well known today but a part of my job sometimes involves research generally called experimental archaeology.

Even though I can do modern carpentry, I am way more confortable building using traditional methods. It is also a gage of quality, beauty and durability.

Dolmen Conservation (website) hosts my workshops and their woodlands provide my wood.

I am part of the Carpenters Fellowship (website), gathering framers and non wood workers to discuss and experiment with crafts.
