Pole tail for a windmill

15/10/2025

A friend from Bognor Regis, who owns a very nice little conservation company (https://greenmancarpentry.co.uk/) told one of her client owns a windmill that is missing a tail pole. That long piece of wood that was used to pivot the windmill around. It was agreed that hewing the tail wouldn't cost much more than conventional milling.

It all started with a big oak, I needed a 11m meter long tapered beam.

Went a bit rough for a while...

And once the timber's hewn on two sides, it all gets easier. That metal ruler is 14 inches long.

Some chamfers

Now we have to move it out of the woods, transport it and install it. Update coming.
